RIDGE HOUSE
Surbiton | Surrey
Located in a backland site with numerous constraints and complexities, the house has a strong relationship to external spaces, with overhangs and openings deep-set into reveals giving a sense of mass whilst offering passive solar shading.
The roof is a twin volume mass to further reduce impact - as a result offering internal vaulted ceilings to the first floor rooms with curated views to the gardens. At ground floor, the house has an east/west orientation, with the first floor set perpendicular on a north/south axis, linked by a central stair. This breaks down the volume and mass of the house to sit sympathetically in the backland setting.
