ST MICHAEL’S PRIMARY SCHOOL
Highgate | London
The proposals for St Michael’s Primary School seek to create a clearer and more welcoming entrance and arrival sequence, site security whilst improving connections across the existing School site.
The new single-storey pavilion sits lightly in front of the existing buildings; its long horizontal form providing a deliberate contrast to the brick pitched roofs and gables beyond. A deep roof edge, slender vertical screens and playful circular openings give the new intervention its own distinct character, while allowing the historic school to remain clearly legible behind.
The proposals reorganise the entrance sequence and relationships between reception, nursery and the wider school, creating a more intuitive route through the site and stronger connections to the surrounding play spaces. The result is a calm and contemporary addition that gives the school a more generous civic presence while responding carefully to its established setting.
