ST JOSEPH’S PRIMARY SCHOOL LIBRARY
Kingston Upon Thames | Surrey
St Joseph’s Library reimagines an existing space within the primary school as a playful and engaging environment for reading, learning and gathering.
A series of bespoke curved timber bookcases creates smaller spaces within the long room, forming places to browse, sit and read while maintaining clear routes through the library. Their circular geometry is echoed in playful floor inlays and existing porthole openings, while a restrained palette of natural timber and St Joseph blue gives the space a strong and recognisable identity.
The intervention brings together storage, furniture and signage as part of a single architectural language, transforming a previously conventional interior into a warm and characterful space for the school. Flexible furniture allows the library to accommodate both individual reading and group activities, creating an inviting new setting in which books and learning take centre stage.
