WEMBLEY HOUSING
Harlesden | London

With the brief of adding significant residential capacity to a piecemeal arrangement of structures, the rooftop scheme near Wembley proposes a series of metal clad interventions, whilst the host building is fully refurbished. The constrained site lies adjacent to the national train network and the scheme sits in tension between this infrastructure and the high street shops.

Utilising the rooftops of five addresses, the scheme re-imagines the internal layout of these properties and adds a multi storey addition to the rooftop. The massing is purposely chamfered to the street front to provide privacy to each apartment and reduce the impact of massing to the street front. To the rear, the massing steps down to fit in with the scale of the context. The facades are clad in industrial sheet metal, seeking to forge a relationship with the precedent typology of warehouses and sheds often found adjacent to railway lines.
